Vila Sofa – A Furniture Store Like No Other

All Images: Tjep

When is the last time you have been to a furniture store that combines innovative furniture ideas with affordable pricing and everything can ship to your home within 48 hours?  I visited the Amsterdam furniture store and knew I needed to share this clever concept for a store with you. If you love Ikea, then Vila Sofa is for you.

What I loved about it most was the modern and cleaned lined interiors with bold colors and still being housed in a warehouse atmosphere was a challenge for the design firm, Tjep. As I walked through the rooms it resembles an adult-sized toy store with bold transportation logos and symbols. What a fun place to purchase furniture and see how store interiors can be engaging similar to your home.

“The conceptual solution was surprisingly simple and logic: a combination of warehouse esthetics and home esthetics. This resulted for example into materials such as plywood usually used for crates combined with high-end glossy finishes. The symbols used in transportation and packaging have been metamorphosed into decorative elements that form room dividers that are arranged to organize the space and routing. “… Cool Hunting

I hope you will be able to visit this innovative store and experience the creative furniture store concept. I especially love how the Vila Sofa staff helps you on handy motorized carts where they can serve each customer individually! I had a great time there; let me know if you plan to visit too.

3 Essential Budget Kitchen Improvements

The kitchen is the most influential part of your home for it has the essential components that every homeowner values. Most homeowners spend more time in their kitchens than any other room in their home and it is the number one room homebuyers look to when considering buying a new house. Here are three essential budget kitchen improvements to put your money where it is most important.

1.) Soften your hard surfaces: Your kitchen has nothing but hard surfaces, from the countertops and flooring to the appliances and walls. Create a softer experience by adding upholstered furniture at the countertop bar, dining areas, and even with small area rugs and wall art. The kitchen doesn’t have to only be cold and sterile.

2.)Add collectibles and personality: Displaying personal items such as vintage collectibles, antiques, and family pictures is a wonderful way to make your kitchen feel like home. Every kitchen has appliances, cabinets and countertops but only your kitchen has the personal touches that makes you feel like cooking and sharing the experience with family and friends.

3.)Update your cabinet hardware: Believe it or not hardware on cabinets can make all the difference in the finished appearance of your cabinetry. Similar to jewelry or accessories for people, hardware creates a finished and clean look. Change your hardware and door pulls to a modern or complimenting style to the rest of your kitchen. You will be amazed at the results.

I love the Channing Desk from Horchow. “The desk is presented in composite wood with a white lacquer finish and nickel legs which form an X. This piece was designed by Jonathan Adler and it has a simple, but attractive design. The desk comes with two drawers with nickel pulls. It is 30.5” tall 24” deep and 54” wide.”… House Luxury Design.  This desk would be perfect in your home office or contemporary den.

Organic textures, materials and patterns are huge now in home decor. I love these wood branch displays that would look great on their own or even better in a group as shown here.
