GREEK KEY INSPIRES DESIGNERS

The Greek Key has been a symbol that dates back to ancient Greece and is still used in many forms of architecture, designer interiors, as well as fashion runway.
The Greek key design was the most important symbol in Ancient Greece as it represented infinity and unity. Most ancient Greek temples incorporate the sign of the Greek key. Even the shield of Philip, the second king of Macedonia, was decorated with multiple symbols of the Greek key. – Courtesy of Things That Inspire

Since I’m an Interior Designer in Greece, I thought I would show you how this one symbol has inspired so many. From metal finishes and textile fabrics to gorgeous jewelery as seen above, the Greek Key is timeless.

FURNISHINGS AND BEDDING

Furniture designer have long used this symbol for tufted ottomans, sofas, pillows, drapery and more.
I love how bedding can transform a bedroom. This bedding uses the Greek Key in a bold yet sophisticated way. Try coordinating your bedding, along with your interior decor and finishes seasonally to give your bedroom a new aesthetic.

 JEWELRY

The Greek Key can be found in your interiors around your home, but designers have also been inspired for you to wear gorgeous jewelry adorned with it! This ring from Bin Bin is a piece that anyone would love to wear!

If you love cutting edge pieces in your home and in your fashion, than this silver Greek Key necklace is for you. I love the hammered and textured finish!
HOME INSPIRATION

Designers have also taken the Greek inspiration all the way to crafting! This gorgeous gold ribbon can be used in arts and crafts, or adorning throw pillows and furniture.

Stationery, personal letterhead and picture frames can be adorned with the Greek Key. Here around the perimeter, the symbol is almost hidden in this intricate pattern. A subtle way of Greek inspired design.
What is always impressive is when furniture designers use inspirational design elements in their work. Here, the Greek Key symbol used in the armrests is a classic and bold statement in these lounge chairs.

Greek Handcrafted Pillow
Whether you like your furnishings subtle and traditional or modern with punches of color. There is Greek Key inspiration wherever you may turn. This bench is a beautiful representation of a subtle designer touch intertwined with the legs.

From your intimate bedding in your bedroom to your comfortable furnishings that adorn your living spaces, designers have been inspired by the Greek Key symbol for centuries. Now that you’ve seen some ideas of mine, how will this iconic symbol earn a place in your interiors or lifestyle? I bet you can’t just pick one!

GIORGIO ARMANI - The Man of Taste

 GIORGIO ARMANI

...HIS HOME

Giorgio Armani
Giorgio Armani - The Man Behind the Design. Giorgio Armani is, to many, Italy's premiere fashion designer. His work is crisp, clean, elegant and tailored. Armani's designs have changed the look and feel of contemporary fashion in business, entertainment and the fashion industry itself. Armani is a no-nonsense designer who came from humble beginnings in Piacenza, Italy, where he was born on July 11, 1934.

Young Giorgio wanted to be a doctor, not a fashion designer. He attended local public schools in Piacenza and completed two years at the university there, studying medicine. However, Giorgio soon realized that medicine was not the career for him. He didn't like the sight of blood - to cite just one reason. Anyway, medicine's loss was fashion's gain. In 1957 and still in his early 20s, Giorgio took a job at La Rinascente. He eventually became a buyer for this most famous Milanese department store.
A few years later - in 1964 - Armani, who had never received any formal instruction, became an assistant designer for a line of men's wear, called Hitman, under Nino Cerrutti. He worked with Cerrutti for 6 years. In 1970, due largely to the encouragement of his longtime partner, Sergio Galeotti, with whom he cohabitated for many years before Sergio's passing of AIDS in 1985, Armani struck out on his own. He became a freelance fashion designer. By 1975, Armani and Galeotti had established Giorgio Armani S.p.A. Giorgio had created his own line of men's and women's ready-to-wear clothing.

A glimpse at Giorgio Armani's home:

Armani's extension into the home is consistent with the designer's fashion philosophy and language. "The process of creating products for the home and for fashion collections is very similar," he says. "Both skills require an ability to imagine things in three dimensions and to translate sketches into reality. In both cases, it is the precision and finesse that will make all the difference." The furnishings are designed to fit specific zones in the home: living, dining, bedroom, study, kitchen and bath. Each season, additional lines are introduced to complement the existing ones.

A Warm Welcome to the Let's Decorate Online Blog

Welcome to my blog!

Renia
My name is Renia Karakoulaki and I am an interior designer based in Greece.
My passion for interior design has kept me active in the field for over 20 years, building up a rich and diverse portfolio.
Having growing up in Greece I could not help being inspired by the wealth of the designs the Greek architecture has to offer, constantly seeking inspiration in every element around me from the most ordinary to the most abstruse. Design is in my nature!

Keeping Eleanor McMillen Brown’s quote: "Taste is relative, but to be positive and vital it must respect the past, accept the present and look forward with enthusiasm to the future".
I capitalized on a sturdy background, which has driven a valuable experience thus far, to make the ambitious step of setting up my online decorating business and making my services available to people all around the world, by annulling distances and reducing costs.
How does that work? Please feel free to visit my website: www.letsdecorateonline.com and let me know your comments/thoughts; your input is highly appreciated!

Thank you for visiting my blog! I’ll keep updating it with my latest projects as well as news and ideas from the field. I hope you enjoy it!
